Urban Mitosis

Chelsea District | New York

Can nature be re-introduced to the urban dwelling?

Does nature help with resettlement from suburban to urban living?

The Urban Mitosis provides a centralized living environment offering employment opportunities, schooling for children and shopping for families in transition from suburban to urban living.  The block project was designed to cover all areas of everyday living.  The two park spaces give a sense of community to the housing section of the structure.  The park located above the market provides a public connection to the street as well as providing an outdoor environment for the school. The park located above the school provides a private exterior space for housing.  The work spaces are located on the outside of the housing to act as a protector from the street simular to a privacy fence used in suburban neighborhood.
